Sunlight for life!

Playing in the Park in the Sun

Sunlight is absolutely essential to sustain life on earth.

The sun provides the lifegiving source for every living thing. What a feeling it is after many months of dreary grey weather, to suddenly feel the heat of the sunlight shine down upon your face! Ah... nothing can compare to that!

The spring and summer here in England, are the best seasons of all. Although the summer often is not hot, there is usually a decent amount of sunshine around and oh boy, don't the Brits know how to make the most of it! On go the shorts upon the bodies that haven't seen daylight for quite some time, and then the socks and sandals! Wonderful!!

sunlight in the park Getting out in the sunlight into the garden is a favourite pastime of mine. I love to plant vegetables like courgettes, runner beans, broccoli, swede and of course strawberries. It is hard work preparing the soil, starting off the seeds, bringing them on and eventually putting them out in the garden (and hoping that after all that hard work the rabbits don't get them!!).

The sunlight pours down on the little plants, and slowly but surely, day by day as I water the garden and admire the wildlife, I realise that the little plants aren't so little anymore. They have grown bigger and stronger and it feels so good to know that one day soon you will be able to feast on that plant! All that sunlight and watering has paid off - the garden is in fact bursting with activity and growth.

cat enjoying sun Taking time to sit in the sun in the garden is a truly enjoyable pastime. Animals (especially cats!) love the sunlight and spend hours lying in the sun soaking up the healing rays! Spending time with family and friends is good - relaxing together and enjoying the fact that the garden looks beautiful because you have carefully tended it and helped it grow.

The garden is also a fantastic place for meditation - the best place of all in my opinion - especially if you have a pond. My sister's pond has ducks and ducklings this year and it it amazing watching the duck family play and grow together. Life in the garden is great - and you know what? It's all down to the brilliant sun and the sunlight that pours down freely upon us.

Take the time in the summer to benefit from the sunlight - enjoy the feel of it upon your skin, avoid at the hottest times of the day - but being out in the sun is beneficial. It lifts depression! It makes you feel so good! My favourite time of year by far! Seriously though, the Spring and Summer provide lots of glorious sunlight and life just feels better. Wonderful things happen in the garden, it starts to revive after dying back during the winter, and plants and shoots start to push through the ground, bringing forth a sign of hope and promise of great things for the long, sultry summer days ahead.
