Stage hypnosis
It is a sad fact that many people who would benefit extremely well from hypnotherapy
are put off because of stage hypnosis. They see people looking silly on the
stage, and are afraid that hypnosis will make them do the same thing. They
feel that they will be made to do something ridiculous whilst in a hypnotic
state.
However, those volunteers during stage hypnosis acts, know exactly what
they are letting themselves in for. They do not see stage hypnosis subjects
as ridiculous, but as fun. Let's be clear here, if you were afraid of showing
yourself up in public, you would not be the type to volunteer for stage
hypnosis in the first place. It is usually extremely extrovert types that will
volunteer for this form of hypnosis.
At the start of a performance the hypnotist will ask members of his audience
to perform a simple and straightforward test. For example, he may suggest
that the audience clasps their hands above their heads and then that they are
unable to unclasp them. Some members of the audience will indeed be unable
to unclasp their hands, while everyone else unclasps them easily. This indicates
to the stage hypnotist who is susceptible to hypnotic suggestion and who is not.
Continuing through his regime, the hypnotist will suggest various tests to
the audience to see who among them are the most extrovert and also anxious
to be a part of his show. He will ask the other volunteers to return to their
seats. By continuing along in this way, the hypnotist is able to screen out
those volunteers who are only doing it because their friends got them up or egged them on,
and is able to identify the ones who most want to join in the fun. These
particular volunteers are actually hypnotising themselves with incredibly rapid
responses!
The stage hypnotist is an extremely skilful character - a brilliant psychologist
who knows people and their responses. He is a showman and we are enchanted
by the hilarity of his stage hypnosis shows!
