Here is my suggestion for your natural remedies kit - a list of items that would be ideal to have in your cupboards at home just in case of emergencies.
Make Your Dreams Come True!
ARNICA Arnica is a homeopathic remedy. The tablets are excellent for bruising, sprains swelling, muscle and joint pain and nosebleeds. Arnica can be given to children when they have fallen over and hurt themselves, or suffered any sort of shock. Arnica cream is really good for helping bruises to heal and also spots. It is readily available from health shops and pharmacies and is a worthy contributor to your natural remedies kit!

How to Use
Take one table in the 6c potency 3-5 times a day. For very young children, crush the tablet between two spoons. Apply cream or tincture according to the manufacturer's instructions.

CALENDULA CREAM Calendula is brilliant for skin irritations. It is a very gentle homeopathic cream that is mildly antiseptic and antifungal, all of which promote healing and fight infection, not to mention reducing inflammation. It is available from health shops and pharmacies.

How to use
Gently rub in to the skin for minor burns, sunburn, blisters, insect bites, stings, piles, chilblains, varicose veins, eczema, acne, corns and sores.

CAMOMILE TEA Another gentle and calming remedy, and really good for children (if you can get them to drink it!). It can be used for tummy upsets, colic, wind, constipation, diarrhoea, food poisoning and teething problems, and is an extremely useful addition to your natural remedies kit.

How to use
Drink three times a day for PMS, period pain, stress, insomnia or to reduce the pain of sprains. Soak a flannel in cold tea and apply to minor sunburn, eczema, or sore nipples as required. Breastfeeding mums can pass on the benefits of camomile to their babies in their milk. Children can have a couple of small spoonfuls of tea or you can add a cupful of strong tea to the bath to help them sleep.

LAVENDER OIL
Any natural remedies kit worthy of its name will most definitely have lavender in it. Lavender is a fantastic oil to use as it has so many healing properties.

How to use
You can apply pure essential oil to spots, cuts, bites and minor burns. You could also soak a flannel in water that contains four drops of lavender oil and apply to bruises and minor skin irritations. Or you could dab a few drops on a tissue and inhale to relieve hayfever, headaches and travel sickness.

LEMON BALM
You can grow this easily or buy it in fresh or dried form from food shops. Make it into tea for a lift when you are feeling a bit low. Lemon balm is excellent for soothing the nerves and keeps the mind alert (in colour therapy, yellow is the choice for mental stimulation!). It is also a good choice in the treatment of PMS, period pain, indigestion, headaches and colds.

How to use
Make a tea by adding 500ml of water to 75g of fresh leaves or 25g dried lemon balm. Infuse for 10 minutes. Strain and rink three times a day reheating as required.

NUX VOMICA
This is the homeopathic remedy of choice for hangovers, also for when cigarette smoke has made you feel nauseous or you have over-eaten. It can also help travel sickness, morning sickness or sleeplessness caused by working late, lack of exercise or indigestion.

How to use
Take one tablet in the 6c potency 3-5 times a day. It is good for babies who wake around 3-4am and are not pacified by a feed. Give one tablet in the 30c potency once a day for up to 10 days.

PEPPERMINT
Peppermint essential oil and peppermint tea are useful to have in the house.

How to use
For headaches, apply a small amount of diluted peppermint oil around the back of the head just below the skull. Peppermint tea is good for stomach cramps, heartburn and indigestion.

RESCUE REMEDY
This is a Bach Flower Remedy for stress, panic and shock. Use Rescue cream on rashes and eczema.

How to use
Take immediately after a minor accident, bad news or fainting. It will help children recover from a nasty fall, calms nerves like exam nerves, pre-dentist visits, fear of flying etc. Put four drops on the tongue at least four times a day or take in water. Put it directly on a tooth to relieve toothache.

Now, these are my suggestions for your natural remedies kit, you might have these at home already, but I would definitely recommend having them to hand - you never know when you might need them and they are all excellent healers!
