We all know people who are in their 70s, 80s and 90s who are so energetic and have such a zest for life. Have you ever actually asked these people, or studied their behaviour, so see what it is they do that makes them so youthful?
I have an aunt and uncle both approaching their 80s who are incredibly fit and active. They holiday a couple of times a year in a mountainous region of France and swim in the sea, rain or shine, every day! That's amazing. Their secret? Well, they definitely watch their diet. They eat small amounts of food, and even when they are in a restaurant they will order one meal and ask for two plates! They share their meal. This way, they never over-eat. longevity studies have shown that over-eating is detrimental to our overall health and wellbeing. They also don't eat much fat. They are always eating fresh fruit and also vegetables, but what I notice most about them is that they drink vast amounts of water! They keep their bodies totally hydrated. Having a hydrated body is paramount to your health. That would appear to be their secret of longevity. I try and take a leaf out of their book, and have started to eat better food, but less of it!
The great news is that the Longevity diet is available to us all. As in fact is longevity. We just need to adapt our minds to the job! When we realise that we all have the potential to increase our energy levels and improve our chances of true longevity, we will never again be lacklustre in our outlook on life!
It is an incredible fact that Michaelangelo painted the dome of St Peter's
when he was in his 90s? Can you imagine the levels of energy and creativity that must have involved at that great age? His mind was obviously still very much younger than his age would lead us to think. Longevity is something we all want to achieve. Wouldn't it be great to harness that energy and creativity in our own lives so that every day we feel motivated and excited by the prospect of the day ahead.Obviously, it will take some doing, seeing as how most of us
become embroiled in the trivialities of everyday life and forget
to see the BIG PICTURE.
There is huge interest in longevity, with longevity tests, longevity calculators and even longevity doctors!
However, by taking small steps each and every day to evaluate
what we are doing in our lives, we can make subtle changes to
make our lives more of what we want. Longevity is fantastic
when we are able to use our physical bodies with ease, our
mental faculties are in tact, and we are aspiring to reach our
full potential.
Creative experiences can enhance brain structure. By being
creative we fend off diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia.
It seems longevity can be achieved much more easily if we use
our brains, keep challenging ourselves and don't allow ourselves
to become bored.
Did you know that when our brains are engaged in mental work, so long as it is enjoyable to us, our brains emit alpha-wave patterns, which is an extremely pleasant state to be in, as our bodies are relaxed and restful and our minds are alert. This is quite similar to the state we find ourselves in during meditation.
Again, we find that if our thoughts aren't positive, if you find
yourself expecting to be bored, then your expectations aren't helping you physically. We should aspire to be our best, do the things we enjoy doing, fill our everyday lives with these things, making sure we give ourselves time to enrich our life experience by indulging in our hobbies. It will have a real and great impact on your life. If you have high expectations and continually set yourself goals, you will look forward to reaching your goals, which will make you happy, which will increase the joy in your life! and so on and so on!
So, remember to spend some time developing new skills; challenge yourself, break free of the mould, don't see yourself as old. Do not allow your life to languish, fill it with meaning. Meet new people, try something new.
On this note, why not do something like create your own website?! This is a way of keeping up with the times, increasing your knowlege, giving a new dimension to your life, gaining new skills - all the things that help ensure longevity in its true sense. If you are thinking you couldn't possibly do something as difficult(!) as starting up your own website, check out

Take the tour and then take the plunge! I did and I have never looked back.
Do not allow yourself to dwell on the past. The past has gone and cannot be brought back.
Live your life in the present moment, keep aware of what is going on around you. Feel the moment and really relish it. Fill it with things you enjoy. Smile!
Apart from a longevity diet, take time to meditate. Meditation allows us to discover our inner life, which can be a useful resource for tapping into our intuition. Follow your intuition.
Allow yourself to be free from worrying about what other people think of you. It doesn't matter! Do not seek approval from others to validate yourself. You are who you are. You are a wonderful being and deserve a life filled with joy and laughter. Longevity is enhanced when we experience feelings of joy.
Give yourself time to know who you are, to really know yourself. Also, do not judge others. Allow them to be.
And of course, it goes without saying, be free from toxins. A toxic physical body is not conducive to longevity, similarly a toxic mind is not good.
We can help reach our later years in good health if we try and incorporate good practices in our daily lives. For example, correct breathing, visualisation, listening to our bodies' subtle signals. Again, bear in mind the longevity diet - keep it simple - fresh food, not too much red meat, and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Also, don't forget water! Any type of water is okay but perhaps mineral water is better than tap if you are able to get it. However, water of any kind will be extremely beneficial in your longevity diet.
