Anxiety symptoms will reveal whether or not you are having a real panic attack.
Thankfully, most sufferers will not experience all of the symptoms, but they will suffer from one or two usually. The following is a list of symptoms as listed in the DSM or Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
Derealization (feeling of unreality) or depersonalization (meaning feeling detached from oneself)
Wow, what a list! Can you just imagine how you would feel if you experienced even a few of these horrible anxiety symptoms.
To be able to decide whether what you are experiencing is a panic attack, then you must be experiencing at least four of the above symptoms. On looking at the list it can be seen that the first ten anxiety symptoms are of a physical nature, and the last three are of a psychological nature. To suffer a panic attack means that you will be experiencing at least one physical symptom.
To be able to deal with anxiety symptoms, there are many routes to help deal with the attacks. The first should probably always be deep abdominal breathing. Slow your breath down and breathe in deep slow breaths, if you can. This will encourage the physical symptoms such as rapid heart beat and palpitations to ease quickly.
A theory exists that a panic attack may be the result of the way a person thinks. In other words, if you suffer from panic attacks, it could be that you consistently focus on anxious thoughts, and then these thoughts trigger a panic attack. To a person who might be suffering from these type of anxiety-provoking thoughts, he/she might be in a totally harmless situation, but 'perceives' it to be unsafe and dangerous.
There is also research that shows there is a connection between children who suffer from separation anxiety and being brought up by adults who are overly-protective.
As it happens also, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than two-thirds of sufferers of anxiety symptoms/panic attacks, are women. Why? Well, recent research would show that women have extremely complex lives these days, looking after the home, working, finances and perhaps caring for elderly parents. The research shows that women who suffer from panic attacks often show signs of low self-esteem, perfectionism, and separation anxiety.
Following extensive research into anxiety symptoms and panic attacks, there is a whole realm of treatments available to help overcome the traumatic experience that suffering from panic attacks causes.
