The Zhan Zhuang Energy Exercises

The Zhan Zhuang, one aspect of Chi Kung, is a system of energy exercises that surprises people because at a quick glance it doesn't seem to involve any movement at all. Hardly 'energy exercise'! However, the difference with Zhan Zhuang is that whereas most exercise regimes consume energy, this actually generates energy. See

Zhan Zhuang Strength Exercises and then come back here

Early morning in China would be a sight to behold as most people, of all ages, carry out these traditional exercises outdoors. In the parks and woods! To Westerners this seems very strange, but it is a way of life for the Chinese people.

The exercises can involve slow stretching movements or martial arts. See Iron Shirt Chi Kung

Amongst these exercises you can find others who appear to be completely rooted to the spot, not a single movement taking place, concentration deeply focused.

This is an incredibly demanding form of exercise - it is deeply focused on internal growth and requires the practitioner to be able to stand like a tree.

This is an exercise system that is attracting a lot of attention at the moment, some of the health benefits being:

  • A much improved immune system
  • Successful treatment for chronic illnesses
  • A vastly improved level of energy in everyday life
  • A beneficial regenerating effect on the nervous system.

Zhan Zhuang enables the body to regenerate and revitalise all the energy that is within it. It reverses the process of decay as we get older. It not only raises physical energy levels, but is massively successful at increasing the fitness of the mind! A lot of illness today is caused through tension such as headaches, heart attacks and nervous disorders, but also because this tension creates weakness in our immune systems causing it to be more open to attack.

We don't relax our bodies properly - we try relaxing by switching on the television, or running, jogging, playing squash, and of course sleeping. Yoga is very good for relaxing, but not very often are we able to achive complete and utter relaxation for the body's nervous system and muscle system.

Zhan Zhuang lets us discover true relaxation, and allows the path to be clear to aid proper circulation of our natural energy to the body and mind.

Zhan Zhuang is very good for your health!

Chi Kung Unlimited covers a wide range of topics on this 5000-year-old Chinese form of yoga as an ancient but still viable way of life, including tai chi chuan, diet and nutrition, acupressure massage, home and herbal remedies, self-defense, Eastern philosophy, yogic breathing and meditation. Benefits include health, healing, well-being and inner peace. Ecourses, free consultation and online support are available.

As we grow from babies, our breathing patterns change. When we are babies we breathe 'properly' and naturally from our bellies, and then gradually our centre of breathing moves up the body to the chest. This is where most people start their breath from. This causes problems and tension in the upper body, neck and brain.

We are aware from birth of the fact that everything is in motion, all the time. Even the mind is in a state of constant motion - people find it almost impossible to top their minds from working, or thinking, it just keeps on running around! We very rarely relax.

Practice will show us how to relax the nervous and muscular systems at the same time.

Zhan Zuang exercises will enable you to experience the full capacity of your muscles without causing exhaustion as is what happens with other forms of exercise. So you will be exercising, albeit as you have never exercised before, but you will not end up dropping in a heap gasping for air!

These exercises will stimulate the body to cleanse itself, and it will also massage the body organs.
