Thrush
Thrush is a yeast infection - Candida Albicans which usually occurs when the body is weak and low in resistance to infection. It occurs mainly in the vagina, though can also occur in the mouth. In the vagina is manifests as irritation, soreness, white patches on the membrane lining and an offensive discharge.
It is exacerbated by high levels of blood sugar which encourage proliferation of the yeast, and as such thrush can be a big problem to diabetics. Non-diabetics who suffer from thrush should reduce sugar to the absolute minimum.
Antibiotics also destroy the friendly bacteria that keep yeast infections at bay.
Keeping the immune system strong with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables therefore plays an important role in keeping yeast infections at bay.
