Processing Beliefs
Processing beliefs, actually looking at a list of our beliefs, will bring to light beliefs causing harm and beliefs causing joy and enriching experiences. It is a vital step in personal development so that nothing hidden stops progress of your life in the right direction.
Make a list of your beliefs on a piece of paper on the following (some or all - it is up to you!):
myself; the world; relationships; love; sex; health; success; finances; women; men; fun; my body; my looks; my career; children; creativity; leisure; death.
Choose one of the topics and quickly write down everything that comes into your head about that topic. Write as fast as you can and don't think about it too long - just the first thoughts that come to your head. This is a very revealing exercise because sometimes you jot things down that you have associated with that word and didn't realise you had an association with it at all! This can unveil hidden beliefs that might be disrupting your life. Don't censor your thoughts - just write it all down. When you are done, you might just have a couple of lines of writing or you might have filled a book!
Then read through what you have written and see what your beliefs are about this topic.
Ask yourself then where these beliefs came from. Did you go through a logical process to arrive at this belief, or have you just picked it up over the years from random events? Are there any contradictions in your list? For example, with regard to finances, do you say 'I always have enough money', and then say 'money doesn't grow on trees'? or 'I'm not clever enough to have lots of money'?
These are contradicting and bring confusion to your life. Get rid of any limiting beliefs such as these, and instead use positive affirmations on a daily basis to replace the void left by the old, limiting belief.
Processing beliefs in this way is very revealing. There is widespread belief in our world that says having financial abundance is incompatible with spiritual growth. Rubbish! What can be wrong with enjoying life to the full and taking advantage of all this wonderful planet has to offer. And surely, if we have more, we can give more.
So look at your financial beliefs. Begin to see your finances in a healthy state, remember like attracts like. What you consistently think is what you will experience. So think abundance instead of lack.
If while you are processing beliefs about life you come across a belief that says life is full of suffering and pain, imagine that belief inside a balloon and let go of the balloon and cut the string that you are holding onto it with. Let it drift away as it is no longer your belief. Instead, you have a new belief in a big gold cup filled with wonderful beliefs. Your new belief is that life is full of joy and happiness and growth. Use affirmations to reinforce this belief. Processing beliefs like this will be so rewarding; do it for all your beliefs. You will soon see change in your life - change for the better!
