Colour Therapy Healing - how does it work? Colour therapy treatments explained

Colour Therapy is a wonderful holistic therapy that can yield real results in the healing process. It may seem a bit strange that colours can affect our health, but it is true that they can.
I qualified as a colour therapist approximately three
years ago, and have been amazed at how this therapy can really help.
Colour therapy is non-invasive and is based upon using the healing energy contained
within the visible colour spectrum. In ways similar to reflexology, and other
complementary therapies, it seeks to achieve balance and harmony
within the body.
There are examples of this therapy having succeeded where other methods of
treatment have not.
For example, it has been used as a cure for leprosy using only
diet and coloured bandages!Famously, Kylie Minogue is said to have started her recovery from breast cancer using the principles of colour therapy. She was seen to be wearing pink, and is said to have had her walls painted pink during her stay in hospital. Pink is the colour of love, and self-love and self-acceptance. It is a very good place from which to start any form of recovery. Through loving ourselves and accepting ourselves, warts and all, we can only then truly know real happiness and contentment.
How can this therapy work?
In the same way as we need a diet rich in all of the vitamins, minerals and
nutrients that our bodies require, we also need the whole range of the colour
spectrum to stay in best health.
Colour vibrations have a direct effect on
the cells and organs of our bodies, and also have a very strong and real impact
on our mental and spiritual wellbeing.
Everyone agrees that colour really does affect our moods.
For me, endless days of grey, cloudy weather makes me feel low, both physcially
and mentally. However, other colours such as yellow, pink and red, can
have an energising and rejuvenating effect on us.
So some colours are uplifting and others are depressing. Without even
thinking too much about it, we find ourselves saying things like, 'feeling
blue', to describe feeling unhappy, 'seeing red' to describe when we are
feeling angry and 'green with envy'.
Our feelings are connected to whether there is a hormonal balance or imbalance
in our bodies at any given time. The pituitary gland, which is the 'master'
gland of the endocrine system (the endocrine system is the hormonal system) receives
coloured light and this affects the production of hormones.
Coloured light can cause different physical reactions such as:
Red light can cause heat and can relieve congestion conditions
Blue light can cause the blood pressure to fall.
Of course, colour can affect the mental body as well; blue tending to calm
and soothe our minds, whilst others, for example yellow, stimulates the mind and
gets the mental faculties to work!
Colour is not only absorbed through the eyes, but also through the skin, and
through a system of energy centres known as chakras, which are directly linked
to our nervous system - See
the seven chakras
Colour therapy is particularly useful as a preventative medicine. Whereas conventional
medicine treats the 'symptoms' of a disease, colour therapists treat the
whole person, that is the spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional state.
Often today, a symptom might be treated successfully with drugs and vanish, whilst the underlying cause of why the symptom arose in the first place, remains undiscovered and therefore untreated.
If we could learn to listen to our bodies subtle messages, as and when symptoms arise, we could then pause and look at what is going on in our lives that might be causing this
symptom, and deal then with the situation that might be triggering the
symptom. Too often we hand our lives over to the hands of GPs, without first
looking for ourselves to see what we can change in our lives to improve our
health. For example, looking at our stress levels, diet, exercise, and all the
usual things!
Illness is an imbalance of energy. Colour therapy works to move energy and
unblock and rebalance energy imbalances. Sometimes, a person will be drawn to
a particular colour, and this is an indication that this colour is needed in
the surroundings, or diet to re-balance. Often a colour is rejected by us for
no apparent reason. This needs to be addressed as well, as often it is a colour
that is needed by the body. Again, it means looking at all areas of our lives
to see where problems might lie. Illnesses develop in our emotional bodies long before
they show up in our physical bodies. Sudden changes in likes or dislikes of
a particular colour can be a pointer to where the trouble lies.
I have written an ebook on colour therapy which provides information and techniques for applying colour therapy to improve our health. It is a useful book to have to hand as it teaches about colour and the different vibrational effects of each colour and how it can be used in healing.
