Changing beliefs to change lives
Changing beliefs is something we must endeavour to do if we feel our lives are heading in the wrong direction, or we are attracting catastrophic and disastrous events in our lives. If we are continually experiencing 'bad' things, then something in our belief system is not working to our benefit!
For example, imagine two ladies visiting a large, strange town for the first time. One of them has a great time marvelling at the city's buildings, museums, parks, and multicultural population, whilst the other sees crowded streets, congestion, overly-expensive shops and restaurants and stressed population. Both very different experiences of the same town! Do you see now how one has a belief system that is expansive and welcomes change and new things, while the other has a belief system that sees the bad in everything and believes that cities are always and without exception horrible places to be? So while one had a great time, the other was miserable!
If you are the sort of person who experiences negative feelings, then looking at changing your beliefs would be a good place to start! We attract certain people and events because of our belief systems. The first lady in the above paragraph would naturally attract and be drawn to helpful people, whilst the other would attract and be drawn to unhelpful sullen people and places. We need to change our whole belief system to change our lives as without doubt we are not victims of our lives, but rather the master of our lives, and we can decide to have a great time on this earth, and attract joy and abundance, or we can choose to be miserable! I know which one I will embrace!
So to go about changing beliefs, we need to examine them first. Beliefs are really a form of self-hypnosis. They become so ingrained that we forget that they might well be a set of beliefs that we were told as children and have stayed with us into adhulthood, when really we ought to look at those beliefs and ask where they came from and if they are helping us in our lives today, right now. Perhaps we were told by our parents when we were young that 'money doesn't grow on trees' and we still hold on to the belief that money is hard to come by. Not surprisingly then, we will find a lack of financial abundance in our lives today. It is the job of the sub-conscious mind to prove that we are right. It simply ensures, rightly or wrongly, that our beliefs and expectations are fulfilled and that they are consistent with what we experience. In other words, that the outer world reflects the inner world. We all have a set of 'core beliefs' which sum up our views of reality. Another example is that if someone sees themselves as unworthy, useless and inadequate, then they project this out to others who then also perceive that person in that way, thus reinforcing the negative belief! Who wouldn't want to change beliefs?!
It is a mistake however that we assume that the beliefs follow experience. It is actually true that our beliefs attract experiences which confirm those beliefs. Like attracts like. The more intense the belief, the more magnetic we become to attracting the corresponding experience.
