Aging Well: Using Holistic Practices to keep you young in Mind and Body

Aging:

People don't grow old.
When they stop growing, they become old.

Annonymous

Did you know that your body doesn't necessarily HAVE to grow old? Did you know that in fact it is 'conditioned' to believe that it will grow old with the passage of years?

Did you realise that YOU CAN STOP THE AGING PROCESS BY THE APPLIANCE OF AWARENESS?

What does this mean?

What it means is that the biochemistry of the body is a product of awareness. Beliefs and thoughts, as well as emotions, create chemical reactions in the cells of our bodies that tell our cells what to do. Therefore, if you are reinforcing the belief that your body is getting old and is no longer able to do what it used to do, then Hey Presto! your cells will conform to this belief.

However, change the belief and reinforce positive, healthy thought patterns and emotions, and your cells will conform to this belief. All the anti-aging creams in the world cannot beat the effects of good and healthy thought patterns. Natural beauty treatments begin with analyzing your beliefs and ensuring they are in harmony with keeping youthful.

It has been proven over and over again, that as you think you are, so you are.

Unfortunately in today's world, it is impressed on us over and over again that to grow old means losing one's agility, passion, sexuality, mental prowess, attractiveness etc. We see getting older as something bad and debilitating and as something we are powerless to change. We are continually bombarded with anti aging products advertising, asking us to part with our money on the latest miraculous cream that will make us look younger and therefore more beautiful and desirable. However, we all know that real beauty is more than skin deep. True beauty comes from within. And no matter how expensive and brilliant the latest anti aging cream portends to be, it cannot beat the beauty and vitality that shines through in the faces and eyes of those who have an inner awareness of their bodies' abilities. Those who think strong, powerful emotional thoughts such as 'my body is strong and full of vitality', or 'my body is as supple and strong as it always has been' will have such an impact on us when we meet them, because their youthfulness is not skin deep. It is a way of life. We can change the processs of aging by changing our beliefs; by examining our thought patterns to see what our thoughts are telling us. Be very careful about what you think, because our thoughts actually manifest in our physical lives.

Getting older is a fact of life - no one wants to feel old and useless. How about though we saw age as something to be proud of? An achievement.

Aubrey de Grey is a geneticist from Cambridge in the UK who is of the belief that very soon we will be able to live to 1,000. He believes that ageing is a physical phenomenon and as medicine becomes more effective and powerful we will undoubtedly be able to address the effects of ageing just as effectively as we address many diseases today.

He is involved in a project called Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescenece (SENS) to prevent and cure ageing. This is no flimsy idea, but rather a detailed plan of actiong to repair types of molecular and cellular damage that occur to us over a period of time. There are currently, at this moment in time, clinical trials in place to put these methods to the test. He is of the belief that very soon, perhaps within 10-20 years, we will no longer become frail as we age, but will encounter our later years full of energy and vitality. He even believes that the first person to live to 1,000 could be 60 today.

He is of the opinion that there are seven ajor types of molecular and cellular damage that eventually become bad for us - for examplee cells being lost and not replaced as quickly as they die. He believes that technology already exists that can prevent this from happening.

Some people might be of the opinion that this is 'playing God', but Aubrey de Grey's answer to this is that it is unnatural for us to accept the world as we find it. Human beings have ever since time began strived for survival at all costs, always seeking improvement in ourselves and our surroundings.

Just imagine...6 weeks from now. You've gotten rid of your unwanted body fat and excess weight, and have achieved the lean, firm and well-defined body you wanted. And having achieved success, you can look back on today as the day you made the decision to create your ideal life, feeling and looking younger, sexier, and healthier. Wouldn't that make you feel good? Don't put off the pleasure - get started today on your

Anti-Aging Mission!

I read about this experiment in a Deepak Chopra book on Aging. There was an experiment carried out on a group of 75-year-olds and older. They were sent to spend a week in a hotel that was fitted out as it would have been twenty years earlier. The only reading material to be had was dated twenty years earlier.

The group of 75-year-olds listened to music from twenty years ago. Most importantly, they talked amongst themselves as though the year were twenty years ago and they were actually twenty years younger. They even wore ID badges with pictures of themselves at this age.

All through the week the delegates were watched and monitored and amazing results were noticed. The men did in fact display an energy and strength consistent with being in their fifties rather than in their seventies. Some of them even had other family members tending to their physical needs at home, and yet here they were showing physical strength such as they had in their fifties!

It was proven that by THINKING THEY WERE IN THEIR FIFTIES, they actually physically changed and even their faces took on a younger appearance!

Aging can be brought under control by thought. Obviously, the more focused you are on staying fit and healthy, and the more you believe you are fit and healthy, then the more successful you will be. Anti aging is about BELIEVING in your body's ability to remain young, supple and full of vitality. It would make sense therefore to carry on using our bodies to make sure that we don't become stiff and inflexible. Exercise such as yoga enhances the body's ability to remain supple and flexible. The organs of the body are massaged during yoga and this shows in the eyes of those who are regular practitioners. Real youthfulness and exuberance shines through these eyes!

I came across a fantastic book that goes into great detail about how the body can control the aging effect, and lots of information to read and put into practice! The book is by Dr Deepak Chopra (surprise!)who is one of the most important healers of our time. It describes how aging is much more of a choice than people ever dream, and therefore anti aging is a choice that we are responsible for making. This book is a best seller, and contains case studies, theory and practical exercises to demonstrate the extent to which sickness and aging are created by nothing more than gaps in our self-knowledge. I have put the link here for you to buy it from Amazon, and hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

Studies are being carried out all the time on the process of aging and how we can learn to halt the process. It is becoming more and more apparent, that our thoughts, the way we perceive ourselves, can have a dramatic effect on our physical wellbeing.

Three factors are standing out from the rest for creating longevity. These are:

longevity itself - just wanting it because you are enjoying life

Being creative in your everyday life, doing something that makes you feel inspired and interested and keeps life exciting

Wisdom - the reward for long life

Dr. Sheri Rosenthal, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec Wisdom, has done it again! In her second book, Banish Mind Spam: Four Steps for De-programming Self-Limiting and Self-Sabotaging Beliefs!, Sheri gives brilliant insights into real world struggles and pointers on potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. Her new book sets out a clear and concise avenue for exploring your minds programming and obtaining your personal freedom. As always, Sheri suggests powerful actions that will assist you in your personal transformation ans spiritual growth. This book is a must have for for anyone searching for the definitive "manual" on cleaning up the limiting beliefs in their programming. Today -banish the mind spam that is sabotaging your life and surrender to a life of happiness!

So what does Sheri say about Mind Spam? "We’ve been domesticated to believe we’re at the mercy of life’s circumstances. Our happiness and joy seem to be dependent on things that are occurring outside of us, events in our personal lives and world environment. We live life riding an emotional roller coaster, feeling happy one day and depressed, angry, frustrated, and jealous the next. We never consider that we have the ability to create our reality according to what we believe in our minds.

To be truly happy, we need to heal our emotional wounds and break the cycle of socialization that has held us captive to a particular mind set. I’m suggesting a way to do this based on simple common sense and an acute awareness of how the “program” in our domesticated mind works. By “program,” I am referring to the totality of information and adopted beliefs contained within our rational minds as a result of our domestication and socialization. In essence, our programming is our own worst enemy, constantly telling us that we’re not good enough.

This type of internal dialogue is enough to make anyone unhappy, and truly qualifies as “mind spam.” Our constant focus on what our minds are telling us keeps us locked into a limited point of view rather than on the infinite possibility of Spirit within us.
