2009 Year of the Ox
2009 - Chinese Year of the Ox
As this year 2008, Year of the Rat, draws to an end, I find myself looking back
over the year in reflection of all that has gone before. The Rat in Chinese
astrology represents wealth, good luck and quick wit. It is associated with
natural charm and extremely good taste. It is said that the Rat is a funny and
amusing character lovely to have as a good friend.
There is a darker side to the Rat though, and that is that it has its own agenda
behind the sweet smile. The Rat is often This can lead to it being greedy if it doesn't
keep it's motives right. Then, as I think back over the year, and see the devastating
effects on the world economy brought about by the failure of banking institutions to
invest their money wisely, I think of the Rat, and wonder if somehow greed came in
to play, rather than modesty and clear, honest business practice. Did the Rat become
too focussed on its own personal gains, rather than remaining focussed on global
affairs?
Just a thought.
This year, 2009, will be the year of the Ox. The Ox symbolizes prosperity through
diligence and hard work. The Japanese will start the New Year
at the same time as us in the West, 1st January, whilst other Asian countries will start their New
Year towards the end of January. And what can we all expect from the Ox? The Ox is
an achiever, diligent and dependable, steadfast and solid in all matters. The Ox will
not lose focus, but will persevere and put one foot in front of the other and keep going
until the job is done. It is true to say that perhaps it is not the most fast-paced,
exciting creature, but it is methodical and honest and loyal. Sometimes it can be seen
to be a bit 'my way is the only way', but it has only the best intentions at heart.
In the present world climate, when we are all feeling the pinch, and are worried about
job security, financial concerns and tightening our belts, I feel quite reassured about
the Ox taking over this year. I feel like there is a dependable, trustworthy, able friend
influencing world events, and that through perseverance and hard work, will bring a
happier, more fulfilling year than the fast-paced, quite exhausting Year of the Rat!
Happy New Year to you All!
